On the first part, you have already known about Sundanese dishes. In this part, it is about the restaurant. In West Java, if you want to eat Sundanese dishes, you do not have to go the restaurant. There are many food stalls around which sell Sundanese dishes.

If Jakarta is famous with Warteg (Warung Tegal or food stall from Tegal, Middle Java), in West Java, especially in Purwakarta, is famous with Warung Kuningan (food stall from Kuningan, West Java). Basically, they sell Sundanese home dishes like vegetables saute, soup, fried or stew chicken, egg, pepes, tofu, tempe, oncom, and something like that.

However, in my hometown Surabaya, East Java, if you want to eat Sundanese Cuisine you should go to a restaurant. Some of them are chain restaurants, like Ikan Bakar Cianjur, Mang Engking, Mang Kabayan, Bumbu Desa, Lembur Kuring, etc. Their restaurants had established in many cities.

One of the characteristics of Sundanese restaurant is lesehan. We eat on the floor like tatami in Japan. The food will serve in low table or on the floor. You can eat with your hand. They will give you kobokan (a little basin filled with water and lime) for washing your hand before and after eat.  

As I moved to Purwakarta, I have tasted some of Sundanese restaurant. The famous menu is Sate Maranggi (you can read my article about it in here). Now, I will share some Sundanese restaurants that I have tried.

• RM Ciganea

This is my no. 1 Sundanese Restaurant. They are famous with ayam goreng basah and sate maranggi. Ayam goreng basah is non-deep-fried chicken. The chicken was perfectly ripe, not oily, and light. I like taste like this. Actually, I never tried their sate maranggi, but people said it was soft and tender.

This resto will give you all the menu in front of you like in a Padang restaurant. You just choose which menu do you want to eat. Or you can ask if they do not serve the dishes you want. I like their mushroom pepes, baby fish fried, and sambal. The sambal is really good and bit spicy for me.

My favorite part is their playground. It is important if you always bring your child. The restaurant also really wide and big. You can choose to eat at their gazebo with lesehan, sitting on the AC room, or not. It is one of legend restaurants because it was established since 1981.

Although their price was little bit higher for Purwakarta standard. I never complain because the menu never disappointed me. You can also shop traditional snacks in here, like sumping, crisps, durian pancake, etc. They also give you traditional
