Burgeria Bernardi: My Childhood Food

Couple months ago, I came back to Surabaya and stay in East Surabaya near Airlangga University. At night I heard a familiar song. “Burgeria, Burger!” OMG! The song is still same. I hurry to call the seller. Yes, it is Burgeria!
I remember the taste of patty, bread, tomato and mustard sauce, also the pickle. While I was a kid, I did not like the pickle because it is too sour.
Nowadays, I really love the pickles. It unites the whole taste of burger. Something that younger me did not understand.
The taste is still the same. For adult me, it is too small. I remember the burger was bigger when I was younger. Perhaps, because the change of my size. Overall, it is same. Like I never grownups.
The seller had already sold Burgeria for couple years. Although it was harder, he likes the job. He bought the ingredients at the Bernardi factory outlet at Sidoarjo because it was cheaper and gave many gifts.

The price is also affordable. A burger only for Rp 15.000. I remember last time I bought was for Rp 5.000. What a long time!
As Surabaya kids at 90’s, I really familiar with Burgeria from Bernardi. Long before American fast food came with burgers, Bernardi had already brought burgers in front of our house since 1989. They sold burgers by burger rickshaws. Under the brand “Burgeria”, they infiltrate burger to our daily life.
Actually, my parents rarely bought Burgeria. Since, it is too expensive for my family at that time. Only for special occasion, like payday or we had something to celebrate. Therefore, I really wait the moment I ate burger from Burgeria.
Later, when big invasion of American fast food, Burgeria rickshaws slowly decreasing. After I move out from Surabaya, I never heard about Burgeria again.
Luckily, it passes through our house at the moment. It is almost extinct. However, thanks to social media, people bring their memorial food to share. It makes younger generations knows about vintage food. Like I introduce Burgeria to my children.
