Two Sides of Bromo: Bromo Crater

Bromo was not only Penanjakan. There were some spots that you can enjoy Bromo as you want. If you want to see sunrise, go to Penanjakan. You can also see savanna and sea of sands which was very popular after Dian Sastro got a scene in “Pasir Berbisik” movie. No wonder that spot also famous as Pasir Berbisik (Whispering Sand). Obviously, you can see the crater in Bromo.
This time, I and some of my office-mates went to Penanjakan and Bromo Crater. If you want to go to the crater, make sure it was not closed. Since sometimes it was closed due to landslide or something like that. FYI, Bromo is an active mountain.
We went from Surabaya by renting a car plus the driver. Remembering the tough field, we better have the driver than drove by ourselves. We went very early because we wanted to go to Penanjakan to see sunrise.

When we arrived in Bromo area, we can not continue the trip by our own car. We should rent a jeep. They said it was for our safety because the mountainous road was not suitable for every car. Okey, then we rent a jeep. Try to deal with the driver, so that you can get the best price.
First batch was Penanjakan. In the first visit, I went there by motorcycle (read: Two Sides of Bromo: Penanjakan), this time I went there by jeep. Certainly, it was more comfortable. I just need to sit and relax, then I arrived.
Oh wait, relax? Not really because my body was shaking due to the road that we were through. But still, I felt safe because we had a professional driver who knew the area. Unfortunately, we can not see sunrise because it was cloudy. So dissapointed, but we still can take pictures with wonderful background.

Then we continued our trip to the crater. The jeep can not get to close to the crater. We should walk from the parking area or ride a horse.
It was tempting to ride a horse in this place. I can imagine myself riding the horse just like the knight in the ancient time. Moreover, we will ride through sea of the sand. Epic! However, it was expensive and we agreed that we should walk together.
Then, we walked with wearing a hat that cover until ears, scarf that will cover our nose, glasses, jacket, gloves, trousers, shoes or mountain sandal. We should cover our nose and eyes because the wind blew the sand around us.

After long walk through the sand, we should climb stairs (again!) to see crater. One of my friend can not continue until the top because he was felt so exhausted. That was why I climbed with three of them. All of us were females. I did not know where my last friend. We were separated.
The wind blew faster. Some other visitors decided not to continue their climb. They walked back and said it was impossible to go up there to us. However, I did not think it was impossible. Perhaps, it was my last time to come here reminding my history with Bromo. Therefore, we made up our mind to go the top.

We holded our hands and climbed the stairs. We helped each others. Whenever we saw our friend was slipped or got difficult to find the path, we stopped. We climbed in line and wait for each other.

Finally, we were on top. Oh, so relieved and happy after the journey. We sat and drank for a while. I felt colder here. I can smell the sulfur, but it was not sharp. There was like a deep pond with no water. I felt so proud that we can reach the top. Girl Power!
After we went down, we realized that our faces were full of dust just like the old people. So funny!
