Kopi Nako Daur Baur: A Sustainable Café

If you already acknowledged Kopi Nako, here are one of their business networks, Kopi Nako Daur Baur. It still sells coffee and other drinks, rice, snacks, but they add something bigger, a sustainable café. A concept that not many Indonesian cafés used it.

More than 60 outlets of Kopi Nako in Indonesia, but only 6 of them are Daur Baur. There are at Senayan Park, Ubud Bali, Bogor, Kemang, Surabaya, and Satria Mandala Museum Jakarta.

When I was stay at South Tangerang, I used to visit Kopi Nako at Ceger branch. I like the food and vibe. However, when I move to Surabaya, I was amazed with Kopi Nako Daur Baur at 98 Gubeng Street Surabaya.

The place is bigger than in Ceger. They build a café in front of the Kompas office yard completed with the pond and some tall trees. You can order at second floor and choose outdoor seat. The table display was made from more than 400 kg plastic cups.

Yes, they reuse their waste especially their plastic cups to make something else. They have their own small waste processing factory, Daur Baur Micro Factory (DBMF). They made the plastic as top table, bar table, top stool, display, until coffee tray. Almost all furniture at Kopi Nako outlets use this furniture.

As a word ‘daur’ means cycle and ‘baur’ means blending. Therefore, Kopi Nako want to responsible with their trash they made. Besides that, Kopi Nako wants to collaborate with others to maintain their trash. They like to collabs with artists, musicians or others brands to add value of the recycled products.

I like the furniture that mostly used blue color. I feel like I am responsible for my waste in Kopi Nako. I feel relieve that my waste in here is reuse as something else. I hope many culinary businesses think about their waste also.
