Kura Space: When Coffee and Books Meet

I love coffee and books. So, whenever I find a place that brings the two together, I would love to visit. My husband shares the same interests, so he recommended a book café in our neighborhood. It is relatively new, and he first heard about it on social media.
One Saturday afternoon, we decided to check it out. The place is called Kura Space, or Kura Café. Kura means turtle. I don't know exactly why they chose that name, but after spending some time there, I think I have an idea.
Turtles are often associated with a slow pace, quiet surroundings, and a relaxed lifestyle. I guess that is the kind of atmosphere they want to create in this café. The interior has an industrial concept, with grey cement walls paired with colorful furniture. It is a clever way to make the space feel more lively.

What I like most is the two bookshelves filled with books. Guests are welcome to read them while enjoying their time at the café. I also love the decoration around the cashier area, where they have some fish and plants. One of the staff members even gave my daughter a little turtle keychain. She loved it! Such a small gesture, but it made our visit even more memorable. I really appreciate their hospitality.
For our order, we had a white latte, guava sour, chocolate cloud, ubi crème brûlée, French fries, and cireng. Our favorite was the ubi crème brûlée. It would have been even better if it had been served warm. The coffee was just okay, while the other items were good. They also offer proper meals, such as rice dishes with different protein options and noodles. The food and drink selections are quite complete, so you can enjoy a full meal or simply grab a snack.

Kura Space also has outdoor and balcony areas with some trees. The place is quite spacious, making it a nice spot to hang out with friends or family.
One thing I always pay attention to when visiting a café is the restroom. Surprisingly, theirs is one of the cleanest café restrooms I have ever visited. I hope they keep it that way!
During our visit, there was also a special event called a book swap. Participants could exchange their old books with others. Interestingly, the books were wrapped, so you couldn't see their titles. Before the exchange, each participant gave a short introduction to each book without revealing its title. I wish I had known about the event earlier so I could have joined. Maybe next time!

Kura Space is located at Jalan Pucang Rinenggo No. 44, Kertajaya, Surabaya. Although it is tucked away in a residential area, it is close to the main road, so it is not difficult to find.
If you love coffee, books, and a relaxed atmosphere, Kura Space might be a nice place to add to your café-hopping list.
