I like beach very much. Moreover, the quiet one that feels like my own. One of them is Pulau Merah. I visited a couple years ago when not many people go there yet. However, nowadays I hear that Pulau Merah is already crowded. Thanks God I visited earlier. Pulau Merah is located in Sumber Agung, Pesanggaran, Banyuwangi. It is in the south of Banyuwangi. Banyuwangi is the eastest city in East Java. You will pass this city if you want to go to Bali by car or bus. Banyuwangi also has a lot of beautiful beaches just like Bali. Moreover for surfing.

I went there by train from Surabaya. I arrived at Kalisetail Station, Banyuwangi, because the house of my cousin was near from here. It was an advantage if you want to travel and you have a relative or friend lived around. It meant saving for accomodation. My cousin brought me to Pulau Merah by car. Honestly, I never heard that beach. For me, the famous beach in Banyuwangi was Plengkung or foreign people usually called it G-land. It was famous for profesional surfers.

On the other hand, Pulau Merah was also for surfers. There was a little coral reefs compared with Plengkung. That was why it was suitable for beginner until professional surfers. Sometimes this beach will crowded with surfers, but not when i was there First time I came in Pulau Merah, I felt shocked. It was really quiet. I just hear the sound of the wave. There was sand all over the place, no building at all. In the edge of the beach, there were coconut and mangrove trees. Therefore, we can sit under the tree for relaxing our mind while enjoying the wind.  

I saw a hill in the middle of  the sea not far from the beach. It was like an island. My cousin said it was Pulau Merah (Red Island). The sand and rocks in the island was red. That is why it was called Pulau Merah. We can walk to Pulau Merah when low tides. Unfortunately, it was high tides, so I can not see weather it was truly red or not. Meanwhile, the sand on the beach was white and soft. However, in some place it was darker. If you walk to the east, you can saw a mountain from here. Not many beach could give you this view, beach and mountain in the same place.

My little nephew just like find a heaven because he can play sand and run all over the beach. I just like to walk around on the sand and sometimes play on the sea. There was a man rode a bike in the sand. I think it was a good idea since the beach was empty. I just wondering why this beach was called Pulau Merah (Red Island). According to banyuwangibagus.com there were two versions why it was called Pulau Merah. Formerly, this beach is called Pantai Ringin Pitu (Ringin was the name of the tree, Pitu is seven).

The first, ofcourse, because of the color of the sand and rocks were red in Pulau Merah. The second, some people believed they saw a red light beamed from the Pulau Merah. Which one was right?
