Putu Piring sounds so familiar

Before moving to Singapore and stay in this beautiful city state I used to hear street food in my hometown "Putu". Yes, Putu! I still remember vividly of this vendor, every evening this senior citizen vendor used to carry two kind of baskets that were tied then hooked on the stick which he carried on left or right shoulder.

He really amazed me as he was quite old but able to carry stick with 2 heavy wooden baskets tied with rope and hooked on the stick, I believe it is heavy since he struggled to walk and he had to switch right to left shoulder in turn to balance the burden.

Honestly, I neglected this food. Only once in a while when my late grandparents called him and bought it so I also joined to have some, to me these are sweets then I saw  inside one of the baske there are a knid of traditional stove or steamer made of bamboo and it looked like train chimney, yes no joke. Because of the steam went out up throught that bammbo chimney like will sound like a whistle and it was so noisy.

Time gone so fast, sometimes it felt like yesterday but thst was the story when I was 5 or 6, it was 30 plus years ago. Even when I was teenagers I had never seen them around anymore. No more demand
