10 Places You Should NOT Talk on Your Phone

To be a nice and polite traveler, you should know that there are some places where you never talk on the phone. It might bother others or just for your own safety. Being multitasking is not always good. You might not aware about your surrounding while you busy talking with your friends or family.

Furthermore, do not use speaker on your phone while in public area. It is disturbing others and at the same time you spread your private information. It might inspire others to do something bad. Therefore, you should aware of these places where you should never talk on your phone, except for emergency.

  •   While walking

Even talking on the phone while walking seems cool, but it is dangerous! You might not give your full attention on your surroundings. There might be people follow you for negative reason. Otherwise, you might cause an accident. Some busy streets with hurried bus driver or kids learn to ride a bike. They could hit you. Pedestrian accident is real.

What to do instead: Make sure the call is emergency before you pick up. You can move aside from the street to take the phone.

  • On public transportation

We might agree that public transportation sometimes is not comfortable, especially on the rush hour. Imagine that all the people in a bus talking on their phone at the same time. It is overwhelmed.

What to do instead: Just texting. However, be careful to not engaged more with your phone while texting or scrolling social media. It is lowering your alertness.

  • Driving on a vehicle

While walking or on a public transportation are not allowed talking on phone as well as driving a car or any vehicles. You need both hands to respond of any situation, dangerous or not. On some countries, it is breaking the law if you driving while using a phone.

What to do instead: If necessary, use your Bluetooth speaker on your car instead of earbuds or headphones (which make you less alert to your surroundings).  

  • At a hospital

There are many emergencies situation on the hospital. You might disturb health workers to do their jobs by grabbing your phone. Moreover, there is a sign of ‘no cellphone allowed’ in some areas of hospital.  According to the FDA, electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency energy (RF) from cellphones interact with some electronic medical devices, including implanted defibrillators and pacemakers.

What to do instead: If you need to ask about health information of your family or loved one, you can use phone at the main lobby or outside the hospital.

  • While Shopping

Sometimes you need to check about the needs of the people in the house. It is ok, but make it quick. Do not on the phone ALL the time. You might not aware about your surroundings. There are many people in the shopping place. You do not know what others intentions. They might be aiming your open purse or your toddler.

What to do instead: Always shopping on preparation. Make a shopping list and make sure you get what your family or friends needs before go to cashier. If you see a sale, consider your needs and wants.  

  • On an airplane

There is always reasons why you can not use phone on an airplane. Regardless disturb other passengers, your cellphone could potentially interfere with radio signals that the pilot needs to communicate with ground control, deal with an emergency situation or receive data about the exact height of the airplane for landing (something that’s especially crucial in fog or bad weather). While this is a rare complication, it could lead to a crash, and it’s just not worth it.

What to do instead: You can optimize the wi-fi on an airplane, if they have that facility. Or simply, just wait to phone until on the ground.

  • While on line

It is acceptable texting or scrolling on your phone during in line, as long as you keep aware of situations. However, try to not talking on the phone. It is awful while in line and listening something is not your business. Keep alert, so you do not miss your step ahead and give your card or boarding pass while it is your turn.

What to do instead: Stay present and prepare all your documents or anything you need to express the line.  

  • At an interview

When interviewing on a job you need full attention. Keep silent on your phone is a bare minimum on an interview. You should be present and concentrate on answering the questions and listening their offerings.

What to do instead: Turn off or keep silent of your phone. Give your full concentration even it is online interview. If you forget to turn off your phone and it is ringing, apologize to interviewer and turn off the phone.

  • During a wedding or a funeral

There is no more to say about this. However, some people might forget if the wedding or funeral took place at a home. Moreover, we took photos at wedding by phone. Therefore, it felt more casual and less sacred. Furthermore, the grief and essence are the same.

What to do instead: Hold your phone or text until it is over. If it is emergency, try to take it not in a serious moment, like in the middle of the speech or ceremony.  

  • In a public restroom

Don’t you know that restroom is unhygienic? Studies have shown that flushing toilets release germs into the air. If you have your phone out, you may be subjecting your device (and therefore yourself!) to germs such as norovirus, salmonella, E. coli, MRSA and hepatitis A. Better wash your hands first after your toilet session. Moreover, what are you doing in restroom is private.

What to do instead: Hold the phone after restroom is a wise and healthier option. Or else, you can bear the consequences.
