I like to eat any cake, even Indonesian, western, or from other countries. One of cake that I like is spiku or lapis surabaya. This cake is originally from Dutch and called Spekkoek. It is a layered cake with some of spices, so the aroma is spices fragrant.

At my last visit in Surabaya last month, I visited a café that their specialty was coffee and spiku. I know Surabaya is identic with spiku or lapis Surabaya, but no one has paired coffee and spiku yet. They even proud to give the name “P.S.I Coffee and Spiku” by Kopi Singa.

As Surabayan, I know Kopi Singa. It is one of legendary coffee branch from Surabaya. However, I do not know they have a café which sell coffee and spiku. I check on their IG. I found out that this café is originally a patisserie and nowadays they have more than 5 cafe branches in Surabaya, inside and outside mall. It is ‘big’ actually, but I don’t know at all. Since I always look for another brand if I want spiku.

I visited one of their branches at Jalan Musi no. 14 Surabaya. The have 3 floors big building as a café. I go to their third floor. Usually if café have more than one floor, we should order at the first floor. However, it is not in here.

We can order in every floor. I think it helps customer if they want a repeat order, because the system is self-service. They will call our name if the order is ready. Imagine that we have to come at first floor and back again to third floor after take our order. Even there is a lift, it is not effective.

I tried their coffee. They offered me a bundling of kopi susu gula aren (latte with palm sugar) with crozzant pizza cheese and mushroom only Rp 36.000. It is affordable. My friend tried their spiku and it was good. I like their crozzant pizza. A croissant with pizza topping and cut triangle like a pizza. It is a little bit thick, but delicious. I should try another variant.

The coffee is good, not too strong which is fit for me. I like how they accept my request not to give the palm sugar at my coffee. Although, it would change the name of kopi susu gula aren become just latte.

It is fun, cozy, and comfortable place to hang out. They have many spaces where you can choose. I think it is fit for family, business, or just alone. At the end of my visit, I bought their whole spiku for present to my friend. I definitely will come back later!
