City Parks at Bandung: Taman Lansia

Taman Lansia

When I often go to Bandung, I realize that this city has many city parks. They have park almost in every corner of the street. Later I found out that Bandung has more than 700 parks spread in all subdistricts (kecamatan).

Actually, I like about this idea, because many Indonesian cities are lack of green public area. An area where everyone can access and enjoy doing outdoor activities. We are so sick of building.

Therefore, when I spend a night at Bandung, I decide to explore the neighborhood with my kids. We stayed at Amaris Hotel at Cimanuk. After I am looking for places around, I found out that there was a Taman Lansia which I can reach on foot.

In fact, I was wondering why the park is named “Lansia” because it means elderly people. Are the visitors should be elderly? No, I was wrong. Formerly, it called Taman Cisangkuy because it is located at Cisangkuy and Cilaki street. Since the visitors mostly elderly, so the park’s name is changed into Taman Lansia.

However, everybody can come at this park no matter how old are you. This park is quite long, but not so wide. There are two artificial lakes that function as water catchments, thereby reducing flooding in the city of Bandung.

There are many sitting area where people take for sitting and resting after jog around. There are also many food sellers around. You just can pick anything you like.

When I was there, I saw a group of elder people talking and eating food that they brought from home. Sundanese called it “botram” or potluck. They looked very happy.
