Surabaya is one of the hot cities in Indonesia. However, the City Government understands it. They plant many tress and build some city parks. One of the oldest is Taman Flora at Bratang Surabaya.

Formerly, it was known as Kebun Bibit Surabaya. Since this location was formerly used exclusively by the Surabaya City Government as a plant nursery. Then, it was repurposed and officially inaugurated as Surabaya Flora Park or Taman Flora Bratang Surabaya in August 2007. Its primary nursery function was relocated to the Wonokoro area which is known as the Kebun Bibit Wonorejo.

Couple months ago, I visited Taman Flora for the first time because I had moved from Surabaya at 2015. I had heard that it was became beautiful and proper city park. But I never had a purpose to visit it.

I came back to Surabaya after I had two children. I realize the important need for open space and city park. I had visited many parks outside Surabaya, like in Jakarta, Bandung, Purwakarta, and Tangerang Selatan. But I never had a chance to visit Surabaya city parks.

Finally, I came to Taman Flora Bratang Surabaya. It is located at Jalan Raya Bratang Binangun, Baratajaya, Surabaya. It was a huge area. We can enter for free. At the entrance, there was sellers of vegetables and fish food. The vegetables was for deer that are many inside. My children always loved to give food for animals. Therefore, I bought a package for only Rp 5.000.

We came inside. It was like we came in the different area of Surabaya. If you ever go to Surabaya, you will realize how hot Surabaya is. However, when I enter the park, it feels so cool, shady, leafy. Thanks to many tress there.

Many small and big tress inside. There was a big tree that we could sit on the trunk. Love it! I also saw a library near the entrance. I can imagine reading a book while the wind blow my hair. Unfortunately, I should enjoy it later. Because my kids wanted to see the animals. We go further inside.

There were animals area. We can saw many deer, birds, chickens, fish, even peacocks. My kids were very excited to give them food. Don’t forget to give the fish also.

After that, we went to playground area. There were slides, swings, see saws, and many things for fun. It spreads in some areas, so that children do not have to gather in one area. Because it was the most favorite place for children. If the children like to climb, there was also a wall climbing. And some trees that big and safe enough to climb.

I bring some food, drink, and mat to sit. If you don’t bring mat, don’t worry. There were many places to sit. This is the best destination for picnic. I like to sit waiting for my kids who are played around. I love to read or eat or just day dreaming under the trees.

After that, if you still hungry, you can come to culinary area near parking area. There are many food and drinks seller you can buy. I think we will come back again.
