How to Stay Safe at Music Festival
For music lovers, it is always exciting to come at music festival. You will gather with other music lovers and enjoying the vibe. However, we should aware that in a crowd many things can happened. How we survive and stay safe during the concert? Here are things you should do while on music festival.
Knowing your area
You might want to lose yourself into a music while coming at the concert. However, you should not lose yourself at the crowd.
While you come at a concert area, make sure you know where the exit and escape routes. Knowing your surrounding is also a plus. Therefore, you can mitigate if something emergency is happened.
Try not to push others. Although you really want to come as close as it can to the stage. Any little push can be led into chaos. People will push each other while they feel pressure from behind.
You should attempt to stay in an open space as much as possible. If it is in intimate show or in indoor area, you can stay near the edge of floor or seating area to get more space.
Have a plan
I know you do not want to think bad before doing something fun like going to concert. However, it is better to have a mitigation plan. Try to learn the concert map before the day. You should notice where the stage and stage exit. Print the map so that you can easily access while you enjoy the concert.
If you come with your friends, make a plan what to do or where you should meet if you are separated or in emergency thing. It is better to have a backup plan also.
Stay calm
Even you had already prepared everything and have a backup plan, it is unlikely to be useful if you are not calm. You should recognize that body response to danger is not only fight or flight, but also freeze, faint, or fall.
You should aware when your body give a danger sign. Keep your head clear and listen your instinct. If you feel someone angry or you feel uncomfortable, just move away as quickly and calmly as you can. Even you do not know the reason.
Aggressive behavior usually involves people not only raising their energy level but making nonverbal cues. Your primitive limbic brain picks up on these cues before your neocortex does. You may not be able to formulate words to why you’re feeling uncomfortable, but your body knows. Every crowd has an energy and crowds that are dangerous or recognizable if you’re paying attention.
Make friends
You might think it is an extreme suggestion, but worth to try. In every concert or festival there must be security guards. Try to approach and communicate with them. Introduce yourself and your friends. Asking about the situation and how they will handle if something emergency has occurred.
You will have a big picture from the authority. They might notice you if you need assistance later. It is also important to be kind and friendly with everybody. Try to help others when they need it. Therefore, they will help you if you need it.
Be prepared
Strategic and mental preparation is important, but do not forget to prepare your material. You must want to save your belongings through concert.
Cellphone is very prone to be lost. You better have a transparent case for your phone where you can put around your neck. It is safer to put phone there and easy to reach.
It is also easier to move where you have two hands freely rather than one hand holding your phone.
